Using Stories to Teach Math
Details
Presenter: Joshua Shanklin
For: Elementary I – II and Secondary I – II
CPD hours: 1.5
Available: On Demand
Can we use the art of storytelling that Montessori models for us with the Great Lessons to create our own stories for math? The Story of Numbers is a great starting place when working to capture the learner’s attention. The history of the human need to keep track of quantity captivates and inspires curiosity, and gives wonderful context for so much of the modern math we hope children will learn to appreciate. But why do we often stop there with captivating stories? What other stories might we share with children, along their math journey, to inspire their interest in counting and computing? When does a good story spark learning? When does it inhibit it?
In this webinar, you'll be invited to think about the importance of story and how it aids learning. We will discuss how story can play a role in learning math, and you will come away with stories to use in your learning environment.
