Study Shows SC Public Montessori Students Outperform Peers

Despite the growth and popularity of Montessori education, there has been a dearth of research on the topic. To help address this issue, the Riley Institute at Furman University developed and implemented a 5-year study of 44 Montessori and non-Montessori public schools in South Carolina— the most comprehensive evaluation of public Montessori to date.

Midwest Region of the AMS Regional Action Commission
Public Policy / Community
Led by Maggie Bischoff and Carol Martorano, the Midwest boasts states with many Montessori schools and other states with few, it is our second largest region for AMS member schools (including 29 public Montessori schools) and teacher education programs. This region covers Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
Non-Contiguous Region of the Regional Action Commission
Public Policy
The small, but mighty, Non Contiguous Region is led by Laura Roark. These states are eager to start regional Montessori groups and encourage the development of teacher education programs. This region covers Alaska and Hawaii and includes 11 AMS member schools.
