Overview
Join Lieutenant Kevin Burd for a thought-provoking and actionable discussion about school safety and security. The discussion will run the gamut from everything related to understanding your rights when it comes to law enforcement access, to proper building signs and markings. You will explore current data, and learn steps you can take if you are ever confronted with an active threat. Lieutenant Burd will also address best practices around visitor policies, building security, and common fire drill considerations. Lastly, he will share ways in which you can facilitate discussions about school safety with parents and students.

About the Presenter
Lieutenant Kevin Burd has been a law enforcement officer for 21 years, and currently works for the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office in Hunterdon County, NJ. Lieutenant Burd provides school safety and active assailant response training on a regular basis. He oversees the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Operations Unit, which consists of SWAT, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Training, Active Assailant Response, and School Safety.
Kevin is a certified instructor of the: Standard Response Protocol; Standard Reunification Method; Law Enforcement Active Shooter Emergency Response; Active Threat Integrated Response; Active Threat on Campus; and Active Shooter Incident Management.
