AMS Peace & Social Justice Committee Awards 2019 Peace Seed Grants

The AMS Peace & Social Justice Committee awards annual Peace Seed Grants to help fund projects that promote peace education. The grants are presented in memory of educator Ursula Thrush, whose dedication to the concept of peace through children inspired many to advance peace education in their classrooms and communities.

Congratulations to the following recipients of the 2019 Peace Seed Grants:

Amy Borak, $1,000
Montessori Community School of Rhode Island in Providence, RI, will use its grant to provide staff and families with anti-bias and anti-racist workshops.

Chinyere Eziuzor, $800
Blossom Fount Model School in Awka, Nigeria, will purchase Montessori materials, books, and training materials for adult learners to promote peace within their community.

Lacey Feeley, $500
Quest Montessori School in Narragansett, RI, will provide students and staff with Kingian Nonviolence training (based on the work of Martin Luther King, Jr.), and a peace and nonviolence library.

Brooke Fly Spears, $420
Magnolia Montessori School in Oxford, MS, will expand the school's garden so that they can donate home-grown food to local organizations in need.

Tabitha LaChance, $830
Kennebec Montessori School in Fairfield, ME, will purchase materials for all of their Primary – Upper Elementary students, which will assist them in cultivating inner peace.

Chris Youngston Gray, $750
Greenspring Montessori School in Baltimore, MD, will provide staff and parents with trainings on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Applications for 2020 Peace Seed Grants will be available in the fall.
